Chromium is an essential trace element found within nature in very small amounts but still very essential for the production of enzymes and protein. Certain foods in the average person’s diet, like soy and corn, actually block the absorption of Chromium and other trace elements due to a natural plant chemical called phytic acid. When the phytic acid binds to the body’s essential elements, it turns into what’s known as phytate and becomes mineral deficient.
Chromium helps the body metabolize carbohydrates and lipids and has also been effective in helping insulin regulate blood sugar levels.
If you are on a plant-based diet you would benefit from supplementation or if you eat large amounts of foods containing phytic acid such as nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, and/or whole grains.
